Handala’s Return: A Children’s Story and Workbook

The Palestinian Feminist Collective is excited to announce the launch of “Handala’s Return”, a children’s story and workbook with art by C. Gazaleh. Handala has been a symbol for Palestinians since being published by his creator, Naji al Ali, on July 13, 1969 in the Kuwaiti newspaper, Al-Seeyasa. He remains a timeless symbol of Palestinian youth, refugeehood, steadfastness, and determination to realize return and liberation.

Our commitment to encourage and foster creativity, joy, innovation, political curiosity, intellectual inquiry, and dissent in Palestinian children and youth is the driving force behind creating this project. We recognize Palestinian children and youth as the anchors of Palestine’s decolonial future and dedicate this workbook to them.

The workbook narrates Handala’s story from his inception to what he means today. It invites children to learn about the history of Palestine through Handala’s struggle, and gives them space to express themselves as children of Palestine through 10 interactive activities.
